Need input for long-time/first-time LSU game

It’s been 15 years since I’ve been to a LSU football game, and I’m bringing my 11-year-old (a huge LSU fan!) to his first LSU football game in Tiger Stadium (I know, what kind of parent am I for waiting this long?!). We are coming to the season opener against GA Southern (again, I know it won’t be the full experience of an SEC game, but it is the one we are able to attend). We are both really excited for the game and entire LSU experience!
I’m seeking some input in planning our visit that weekend…
1) Parking: I’d rather pay and know I have a spot than try to find my way around for free parking. Am I better off buying a pass beforehand through StubHub or similar site, or would I be OK to wait and pay for parking on game day? What time should I be on campus if I want to get day-of parking?
2) Traffic: What should I know about counter-flow traffic and getting off campus after the game in terms of good/bad places to park? (we will need to get back to Corporate Blvd / College Dr. area after game).
3) Lunch: Will it be possible to get into Chimes for lunch on game day, or will it be a complete madhouse and not worth the hassle? I had also thought about grabbing a bite at Mike Anderson’s or other nearby place before heading to campus on Saturday (my kid loves Cajun food, so I’ve obviously done something right!)
4) What are the kid-friendly must-sees on game day? Of course, I’ll take him to see Mike the Tiger and the walk down Victory Hill, but are there other things he wouldn’t want to miss? Related to this, are there any particularly kid-friendly tailgating locations or activities around campus?
Thanks for your input! Geaux Tigers!

Parking shouldn’t be an issue for that game if you get there early enough. Park in the free lot by Nicholson, walk through campus and head to chimes for lunch.
Contra flow wil bring you back towards college do that shouldn’t be an issue either.

Parking to get to corporate: take the ten to Acadian and go past Perkins and oark in that neighborhood. 20-30 min walk for you and 15-20 min car ride

Everything about the gameday experience is easier for the smaller games. You picked a good one, especially with a kid.

Parking without a prepaid spot isn't a challenge except for the biggest games. I'd recommend parking on the Northeast end of campus. The student churches along Dalrymple have easy egress after games. The neighborhoods on the North end do as well but will put you in a sketchy looking area that is actually fairly safe on game day. Parking along the south side or the river can get you caught in contraflow going too far out of your way. This would also put you near the Chimes if you really wanted to go there for an early lunch.
Your best bet on campus is to hang around the Indian Mounds. There are tons of kids in that area and it allows you to easily see both the team and band march down the hill.
The morning of the game you can look on a site like Dandy Don or lsusports to find the official times that each event will be taking place. For many games, there are areas with fan activity tents, live music, and radio broadcasts that you can check out.
