The main thing I did not like about this show overall was that there was no humanity. None of the main characters actually cares about other human beings, they are all selfishly motivated.
To the extent you've gone to on this, no one has any (or at least enough) humanity.
An old trope an Econ teacher brought up to me years ago that's uncomfortable but true is that there are very few truly selfless acts, thus most actions are selfish on some level. Even something as simple as holding a door open for a little old lady whose arms are full can eventually be traced to some level of a return you get (the good feelings from knowing you did something nice for someone else, belief in karma, etc).
Starlight is in it for being able to help people. Period. She doesn't care about the glory or fame, she even gets annoyed that she's not able to just go out on her own and do good for people because HR and legal has fits. Seriously, if she falls outside your definition of showing humanity then no one other than Jesus or maybe Fred Rogers will fit it.

but then accept when Butcher is willing to use babies as a bargaining tool?
He used ONE baby as a bargaining tool, the other he used as a luminescent weapon of laser-hot death.
