1776 by David McCollough.
Three books which should be read in order by Nathaniel Philbrick: Bunker Hill, Valiant Ambition, and In the Hurricane’s Eye. (They’re about the first big battle around Boston, Benedict Arnold and the Hudson River fighting, and the French naval victory in the Chesapeake Bay and Washington’s siege of Yorktown. (George Washington features prominently in all and involve some of the best historical accounts I’ve read.)
Also, Revolution on the Hudson by George Daughan.
