Would be my first recommendation.

Also check out Jeff Shaara's Rise to Rebellion (covers from the Boston Massacre to the signing of the Declaration) and The Glorious Cause (remainder of the war).

I will admit I am a huge fan of Shaara's books so I may be a little biased, but I thought both books were really well done. If you have read any of his other books, these two follow the same format.
