1. Get you a rebel and put it on full auto.

The Sony mirrorless is a nice camera.

This except save some money and put it In the kids college account.
This here Sony A600 is a ridiculously capable mirrorless. I'm a "prosumer" who's had have had several dslrs over a decade to capture 80k pics of my kids, vacations, etc.
You'll be very happy with the A600 for well under 1k with a decent zoom lens kit. It's compact, sharp, and fast. The phone app to take remote pics for family stuff is very handy as hell.
Just Buy a good prime indoor lens for daily use and enjoy. .
