Do river pilots really make 700k a year?

Not quite that much but the river pilot mafia ensures they are massively overpaid

They navigate boats up and down river from the gulf

I’ve seen close to that. That’s gross pay though, it’s all 1099 income.

Maybe some of the senior pilots for the large ports and rivers. Know a Port of Houston baw that makes north of $500k/yr

You think it’s easy?

Do you have any idea how long it takes to become a river pilot?

You can go to med school and become a doctor quicker than you can become a river pilot.

Not sure what they make in 2019, but circa 2005 i dated a girl whose father and three brothers were all river pilots (nah, no chance of any nepotism there...) and they each made about $400k.. not sure if it’s increased to $700k in < 15 years, but ya never know.

With extra work they can make that and more. What do they do.....Something that most people cannot do, they earn every penny.

NOBRA pilots have the most difficult track n the Country due to the bends in the River.
