sounds like you think its still the 1950s and are very naive and have no clue home many home invasions are nothing more then a guy walks up to your door and walks in. once inside you are their bitch since its too late to go get your gun or a weapon while they rape your wife or daughter in front of you while laughing at you.

in this day and age do you really think criminal punks give a frick about going in a nice quiet neighborhood and walking into random houses to rob rape and kill just for sport?

i could see not locking a door if you are a man and sitting in the room behind it, the assumption is you can fight off anyone who does just walk into your home, but you are still gambling they wont have a gun when they do it
