We were supposed to have some quality pitching depth in he minors this year but that went to shite in a hurry. Between injuries and ineffectiveness, that presumed depth evaporated quick. Most of a starters at AAA have ERAs above 5....the ones who don't have been called up and gotten shelled. 
At this point, adding a starter isn't an "ideal upgrade" it's an absolute necessity. Not a great leverage situation for Luhnow.

Pitching prospects are like barn cats. Things happen to them so you don't ever have too many (or maybe enough).
