: Despite the fact that teams aren't able to make trades in August anymore, the market hasn't picked up yet, aside from the Red Sox acquiring Andrew Cashner from the Orioles and the A's picking up Homer Bailey from the Royals.
Perhaps it's because asking prices remain "enormous," Buster Olney reports in an article for ESPN+ (subscription required), citing conversations with executives around baseball. According to Olney, teams are requesting "very high-end prospects," even for rentals such as the Mets' Zack Wheeler.

The Mets will place right-hander and top trade candidate Zack Wheeler on the injured list today due to shoulder fatigue, reports Newsday’s Tim Healey (Twitter link). It’s not clear how long Wheeler would stand to miss, but even if the move is backdated the maximum three days, Wheeler still he won’t be able to return until July 23. As Healey points out, that’ll give him a maximum of two starts before the deadline even in a best-case scenario for the Mets. Lefty Steven Matz will start in place of Wheeler tomorrow.

The Brewers and Giants have been in talks about a potential trade that would send lefty Will Smithfrom San Francisco back to Milwaukee, reports Robert Murray of The Athletic (subscription required). The Giants are particularly interested in second base prospect Mauricio Dubon, per Murray, though he specifies that no deal is close between the two clubs.

The Royals pulled catcher Martin Maldonado from their game Monday, likely because a deal is on the way. They’ve been “working on a trade” involving Maldonado with an unknown team, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. A trade is indeed “close,” Mark Feinsand of MLB.com adds on Twitter.
