2016: Hillary Clinton (D)
2012: Mitt Romney (R)
2008: John McCain (R)
2004: John Kerry (D)
2000: Al Gore (D)
1996: Bob Dole (R)
1992: George H.W. Bush (R)
1988: Michael Dukakis (D)
1984: Walter Mondale (D)
1980: Jimmy Carter (D)
1976: Gerald Ford (R)
1972: George McGovern (D)
1968: Hubert Humphrey (D); George Wallace (I)
I include George Wallace because he actually won several states as a third-party candidate in 1968.

1992 George HW Bush was the toughest to beat. Had Jerry Brown or Tsongas won the primary I think he'd been reelected.

You can see why most of them lost, that list is almost universally a gigantic pile of losers.
Ford would have won easily without the Nixon baggage, hell he almost did anyway.
In other words, in a normal election Ford always crushes Carter, but he didn't come into it under normal circumstances.

Dole was the least exciting out of all these candidates.

IMO, he only needed to drop Dan Quayle, and he would have won.

With the exception of George H.W. Bush that's a pretty pathetic list.

I can only speak for my lifetime.
1. GHWB
2. Gore
3. Romney
4. Dole
5. Kerry
6. Clinton
7. McCain
HW and Gore had the ability to win. Romney tried to win but never stood a chance. Dole was there just to be there. Kerry was an insult to America, something that has continued on through his tenure as SOS. Clinton ran one of the worst campaigns in history, while under FBI investigation and committing blatant felonies monthly. The only thing you could do worse would be to suspend your campaign to fly back to the Senate to bailout more bankers with taxpayer funds and tell people how great your opponent is at every rally.

We have a winner. Your older than me though. I figured you were closer to my age. BTW, I guess our serial downvoter got banned.
