Carnival Cruise Dining Waitlist

Anybody familiar with the waitlist for the two dining slots for Carnival cruises? I selected to put my fam on the 6PM waitlist, but I'm not sure what to expect if we end up not getting off the waitlist. Do you get assigned the other 8:15PM late slot, or a random time in between? Or do you not get a designated time, and just have to put your name in like at a normal restaurant?

Normally they can switch you over, but sometimes it doesn’t happen till the first day on the ship. It is either early or late sitting or you eat at the buffet.

I would go ahead move over to anytime dining and show up right at 530 or 6pm. You should get right in. When you get on the ship, go to Guest Services and ask if there is any room at the 6pm seating.
You can do Guys burgers or pizza if you don’t want to do the MDR or the buffet.

Your options are early, late, or anytime. Depending upon what's still open is where you will end up.
Anytime means you can go anytime during a set window, however, they still limit the number of people assigned to this option. Anytime is kinda like the "put your name on the list and wait" but it's only a few min at most.
If you don't get 6 pm before you cruise, try to get on board early, and go see the Maitre'd (you can ask when you board what dining room he is currently in) and see if you can get moved to the early slot. Sometimes they have flexibility. It's customary to tip him if he can do it. We did this a few cruises ago and tipped him $20.
