It's not fair now, well, at least according to some people. So let's just make it not fair, only for a different group of people.

These folks knew full well that they were taking out loans. Why should there be any discussion whatsoever of cancelling them?

Here's a hint: Don't want to incur a huge amount of student loan debt? DON'T TAKE IT OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!

Then we need to overhaul the whole system. Tuition at Louisiana state schools without TOPS (which will be gone within a decade) is skyrocketing. Not many people are going to be able to afford tuition and fees and rent and what not without taking out loans. We need to get the government out of the lending business so schools cannot keep jacking up the prices. That or we put them on the hook for debt.

With college prices as they currently are, for most people, that's going to mean not going straight to a 4 year college.

Which isn't a bad thing, but it's going to take a major change in our society's thinking to accomplish that. Lot of pressure on these kids to go straight to a 4 year school.
