This goes back to the two inescapable truths about law.

You either create a harsh system that theoretically could hurt an innocent life permanently.

Or you create a system bad enough to punish a bad person, but offers enough leeway to rescind the punishment if evidence suggests that crime was not committed.

I don't understand why many chose the former given there isnt a 100% secure way to determine every possible scenario.
