why did his hiring delay the coaching hiring?
No one wanted the president to directly hire the coach. Everyone clamored for separation between the two position, so insert a GM. You don't hire from the bottom up. You have to go President -> GM -> Coach. We couldn't get a new president until the vote in mid-February 2018. They have to take a little time to formulate the GM position (all the while traveling the world securing votes for the 2026 WC). They then hire a GM in June, but they agree to let him wait to take over until August, once the MLS transfer window closed so he could tie up loose ends in Philly. Gregg agrees to the job in November, they announce in December once his season is over. The interim manager's contract ran out at the end of the year, so they let him finish his last camp.

Could they have moved quicker? Sure, but not much quicker. It was always going to take time when you had to fill 3 positions in the hierarchy.

This is hella straw man.

No one wanted Sunil to make the hire. The hope was that our next president would have the ability to make a sound hire, you know like every other international federation.

Instead we got Sunil puppet Cordeiro who was elected in February of 2018.

Berhalter wasn't hired until December of 2018. In the time between, an arbitrary GM position was created to make a hire and that meant we went a full year with Dave fricking Sarachen and it completely stagnated our program, giving it no direction and no hope a year after we reached our lowest point.

Will Parchman said it best on twitter. The worst thing about the USMNT over the last year is that after a match loss, you don't see much complaining, you just don't see really much of any reaction anymore outside of a few diehards.

Apathy has set in with the program and it is stunting our growth immensely.
