It is a little odd that she has this issue, when the "Men" is used as the generic for "Human" - the initial reason for Xavier naming them this was because they possessed an "X-gene" that separated them from humans.
If the comic had been called "X-Humans" from the VERY start, it might have worked, or it might have confused people thinking it implied "Ex-Humans" (as in once human and not anymore).
The team had a female member from day one (Marvel Girl / Jean Grey).
