Lets talk about the gas tax in Louisiana

You know what's a scam?
Paying the road maintenance tax on gasoline when filling up a boat
They have off road diesel for that purpose but no off road gasoline? WTF
That brings me to this point.
There's thousands of boats in Louisiana yet they want to raise the gas tax from time to time, yet they're getting free tax money handed to them when filling up a boat because that surplus of money is gained without any wear being done to the roads.
Ok, rant over

In Virginia at least you can mail in your receipt for boat gas, and they will mail you a refund check on boat gas

assuming your boat doesn't stay in the water 24/7, are you not pulling the trailer for said boat along the state maintained roadways? just sayin

Actually I have 2 boats that stay in the water parked under the house 24/7
I get what you're saying but that is ridiculous when thought is put into it
People don't pay extra gas tax when pulling a utility trailer. The extra fuel burned by the truck that is pulling the trailer is in turn paying more taxes.

Never heard of anyone keeping there outboard running while it is being pulled down the road by a vehicle. The vehicle would be burning that gas. Just saying.

Point is, they want more tax money but they should be called out on all the free money they are already getting (from boaters) and squandering.
Put the gas tax on boats towards waterway upkeep such as clearing out invasive vegetation, fighting apple snail invasion, roseau cane scale, etc.
Yeah, all losing battles probably and I'm not asking for more taxes, just better use of the tax if we are forced to pay it.

How would this be separately charged? Dyed fuel to only use off-road?
Posted on 6/5/19 at 11:00 am to jimbeam
Sure. Could be done like they do with off road diesel I'd imagine.

Makes about as much sense as the government forcing me to donate to politicians through planned parenthood.

You know what else is a scam? Taxes!

I don't think a marina that sells fuel collects road taxes.

Downvote away the original post
People must really like the idea of paying the state 20 cents extra per a gallon "road tax" for a boat that isn't burning the gas on the road

Are you positive that marinas collect a road tax on their fuel? It will probably cost more at the marina because capitalism but at least you won't be paying the road tax.

I never said anything about the gas having to come from a marina
I was told by a marina operator that they pay alot for an environmental permit to sell gas close to the water. That's why marina fuel is more expensive I was told

Alright. I guess I don't understand what you are complaining about.

There should be fuel stations that carry gasoline that doesn't have the road tax for boaters. Just trying to save us some money!
I can buy tax free off road diesel for my tractor, because its not a road vehicle tearing up the road requiring maintenance from the state.
Why not some tax free gasoline for when in the boat?

They are called marinas.

Oh, ok. Well from now on I'll make sure to fill up at the marina

Pretty sure I saw someone doing exactly that on @QualifiedCaptain recently
Great IG page. Highly recommended.
