Has solos always been this campy? Started playing a lot with my friend in duo and we have a couple wins but I regularly end solo with like 1 kill.

yes. I can get 10, but you have to camp strategically

Solos is very campy.
Me and some friends won a plunder the other day with 0 kills across the board, only shots fired at helicopter
