Agree , if you go by the numbers, he did not live up to 1st round pick.

However he freed up defenses, so he essentially helped that 2006 7th rd pick could become the player he was.

On top of that, his play could have help our coaches look for a compliment rb player to his style. It could possibly allowed the coaches to be comfortable in releasing a 4th round pick rb and sticking with an undrafted rb out of Illinois. One that scored in the Super Bowl.

Bush made some meaningful games that Super Bowl year, Hell look at Miami. That was a big time highlight right there.

Ask the team and coaches how important Bush was on the Super Bowl run ???

The Saints have made bigger mistakes at the first pick. Johnathan Sullivan, Alex Molden, Chris Neole, Russell Erxleben, Shawn Knight come to mind.

Too me, Bush was a crucial pick, because he helped get us our first Super Bowl.

And who is to say any of these guys picked after Bush would have done it ??

Vince Young.
D'Brickashaw Ferguson
Vernon Davis
Michael Huff
Donte Whitner

Nope not a wasted 1st pick to me.

Yep, I specifically remember 2009 Wk2 vs Eagles, first score of the game, a fake toss to Reggie and all three LBers biting on it, shifting to their right, leaving a seam on the vacated side wide open for an easy TD pass to Colston.

Very similar, this year, was Brees' record-setting TD pass to TreQuan Smith vs Washington on MNF, where Kamara simply wheeling out of the backfield to the right caused two DBs to bite up to cover Kamara and left Trequan wide the fvck open up the sideline.

Neither Bush nor Kamara get statistical credit for those scores, and yet they were hugely responsible for making those plays happen.
