You would think a person would be aware they are traveling to the murder capitol of the world and would do a little research on where and where not to stay.
When travelling to a foreign country or specific city, people usually research hotels and rates on TripAdvisor, Priceline, Travelocity, etc... According to Expedia Comfort Suites in The East is rated 4.2/5 stars "Very Good" with 217 reviews. I don't think the tourist stayed at this hotel as I used it as an example about searching for places to stay based on pictures and reviews.
He likely chose The East due to it's close proximity, less than 8 miles to the French Qtr. The dude apparently had no clue about the geographic area nor the difference between hotels in Metairie, Kenner, The East, or Gretna. Regardless of the outcome, I'm not blaming the victim for this senseless tragedy.
If I was in charge of sentencing, a large makeshift cage would be erected in the guilty individual(s) community. The guilty would be fed to the lions for all their peers to watch, and hopefully act as a deterrent to future crimes and murders.
