See the post above yours.
Most of the tariffs today are on inputs into goods that are manufactured in the US.
Trump is proposing to expand the list of tariffed items to include a lot of finished goods.
So we all are paying the tariffs today but we can't easily see it because the products impacted today are mostly ingredients or inputs into products manufactured in the USA.
I posted the list for you.

The Chinese tariffs have impacted primarily manufacturing inputs thus far but their impacts will be much more apparent to you if and when the expanded list of products is tariffed. Those codes include a lot of finished goods.
You’re assuming Trump will not win the trade war. Canada, Mexico, NATO, and the EU say he does. Then you have free-fair trade and the world wins!
Now China has a history of choosing poorly. Mao, the Cultural Revolution, the one child policy, Tiananmen Square, not curbing the nuclear aspirations of their attack dog North Korea, building artificial islands to steal from their neighbors, The Belt and Road Initiative to dominate the world, and making Xi the Fascist Dictator for Life. Therefore there is an excellent chance that they will choose suicide by trade war.
There are numerous countries hoping for American trade. And both you and Xi are forgetting the number one rule of market economies, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT EVEN WHEN THEY’RE NOT!

Uhh I am saying you will see the tariffs in the list of goods he says he wants to tariff.

You may be on to something there. You understand of course that nothing you mention there is a part of the tariff war?

You understand that this is about access to the massive Chinese domestic market right? That American companies want to invest and expand sales in China and want IP protection and more financial choice when they do?

See the post above yours.
I am asking because China is absorbing the majority of the current tariff costs though currency devaluation and subsidy . . . as we have discussed previously.
Do your sources indicate the CPC has maxed out that capacity?
Regardless, to the extent there are less expensive alternatives than Chinese goods at a 110% - 125% pricepoint, supply chains will be switched.

No one is disputing that. They will be switched if they can be switched.

All those held still the tariffs are still adding to the cost but your post highlights a Chinese advantage in the trade war. Their currency reserves act as sort of cushion for them in terms of currency valuations. If they devalue the RMB for example then their dollar holdings can be used for more subsidies in RMB. Does that make sense?
Home Depot said in their conference call that the proposed tariffs will result in $1 billion in increased annual cost.
Look there are no winners in trade wars. None.
The idea we should hurt ourselves simply to hurt China more is crazy.

I didn't see any questions from you. Only the STD guy and the connotations are intentional.

AGAIN, that is at best only partly true.
Well it is true if the goods come from China. People may move sourcing but if they do not there will be increases.
China has some big weapons to use before devaluing again and unfortunately I am afraid we are pushing them toward those alternatives.
They could for example, push up the value of the dollar by selling Euros or Yen and buying T-bills.
They could start canceling deals with large US companies like Boeing and stop buying farm commodities again.

Um, there was no massive Chinese domestic market until they started selling to the massive American domestic market. Now the American market started to diminish because of not fair trade. But when other countries step up and take China’s place in the American market, their market will develop for fair-free American trade. Of course Chinese domestic markets will proportionally diminish and become less important behind Chinese trade barriers.
THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!

That Canada and Mexico renegotiated nafta to usmc under Trump pressure, NATO nations agreed to start paying their fair and agreed upon share under Trump pressure, the EU has agreed to renegotiate trade under Trump pressure, THEREFORE, it is a reasonable assumption that China will bend the knee to the pressure of the Magnificent Orange SOB too. Surprised you needed that spelled out.

You may be on to something there. You understand of course that nothing you mention there is a part of the tariff war?
Yes it actually does. The correct Chinese choice is free and fair access to the American market in exchange for free and fair access of America to the Chinese market. But there is no assurance that they will choose wisely based upon their past history.

Exactly!
Toss in a few essential items like no more currency manipulation and normal legal protection in a fair judicial system and you get FREE AND FAIR TRADE!

Every country has it's own IP laws.
There are ongoing FBI investigations because we have strong IP laws. We have mechanisms to fight IP theft.
And that is why we have tariffs now. I should not have to chase down all the theft when it is the chinese govt themselves stealing it. An easier solution is to tariff your arse until you stop it, not make me spend endless hours and billions of dollars to prove and make you stop. And the tariffs are working quite well.
When the chini govt changes the way they track unemployment and start using govt "surveys" you know we are wearing their arse out.
They better act very soon or the debt cliff will be crossed.
