I dont Think you have to ubdercut the victory.

I think The point is maybe that Robert’s anger was misplaced and he longed after a girl he barely knew and killed her true love.

Its Essentially the Iliad, but Rhaegar is Paris and Hector combined, and Robert is Menelaus, Agamemnon and Achilles combined.

Wouldn’t it be interesting to see Rhaegar’s textiles to Ned’s brother and father being killed because he ran away with Lyanna?

The interactions between The Mad King and Tywin and Rhaegar?

We get The main plot but we really don’t get the human factor.

Oh I don't think you have to either. And I don't want to see Robert win his fight with Rhaegar via some cheap trick, I just have an ominous feeling that's how it'd be presented.
