My family has hit a deer probably 5 times.

Most dangerous was when I was a kid and we were driving up to our lakehouse around thanksgiving at night. Look to right at lights on a barn, look back and big deer is standing middle of the lane. Because it was snowy dad didn't even touch the brakes. Just pummeled it head on. We weren't wearing seatbelts of course (it was the 80s) and mom spilled Southern Comfort on the dash, which they had been passing back and forth.

Passing guy in a station wagon asked if he could take the deer.

Also clipped a fawn when towing a trailer, dad and his buddy hit one with buddies truck (the rack is on the wall at our place up north), and a few other similar incidents to those...all on our way to or from the Northwoods.

Another time saw a deer running through a clearing, took one step up onto the road and jumped clear over a pickup truck with a cap on it that was just ahead of us. Pretty damn impressive athleticism.

The most deer I've ever seen in my life in one area of a state was when I was visiting a friend up in Bloomington, Indiana and he took me riding in the hills of Amish country. Every turn in the road we saw deer all over the place as the headlights swept the area.

I couldn't believe how many deer we saw that night, and it really wasn't a long ride. Probably no more than an hour or so once we got to the area where it was heavily populated with Amish families.

I've gone on some long solo road trips on my motorcycle over the years and love to ride late at night and into the early morning hours if the weather is hot.

Problem is, that is when wildlife is out and about and I've had a few close calls on the roads at 0' Dark Thirty on two lane rural roads.
