Your contractor friend seems like a good guy. Does he pay taxes? Has he done so for his 25 years.

If so, he's someone who should be very welcome in this country. And, if/when the immigration debacle is solved, he will have a way to stay.

But, if he's been here 25 years and hasn't paid federal taxes, I don't give a damn how much you like him. He should be deported.

no I don't think so either...but it's difficult when you grow to really appreciate another person who has a talent and skill as well, a good example, a good dad who makes his teens come to the jobsite when teachers have a work day...but "he's illegal"

Like I said, he came in the front door,

he pay taxes, we report his earnings to the IRS...via 1099
