Teeth are a good indicator but generally not definitive.

Best way to tell is look at the tooth patch on the roof of the mouth. Cubera have a triangle shaped patch, mangroves have an arrow shaped patch.

Another similarly colored snapper is the dog or dogtooth snapper. It has a tooth patch similar to the cubera (triangle shaped) but has blue splotches or a blue line under the eye. It is also commonly confused for a mangrove as they top out around the same size.

What is your method of checking said patch? I have had a Bluefish chew on my finger before, kinda leary........
