Yep. The pros are pretty obvious: great weather, beaches, outdoors stuff. Cons: traffic, prices (not as bad for people with commissary privileges), I did not but a lot of people get island fever. Public schools are bad.
eta- never had any negative interactions with locals but it's a common complaint.

Ever heard of island fever? After two years I was ready to swim to San Diego. It's insanely expensive. Take full advantage of the BX and Commisary.
Be ready to catch attitude from natives. If Hawaii could get away with it, they would all be freeloading squatters, not just half of them.

I lived there as a civilian and the locals truly hate Haoles (white guys specifically). Never ever hit on a Hawaiian woman when there are Hawaiian men around unless you want your arse kicked by everyone in the bar, beach, grocery store, police station, or wherever you make that mistake. This is mostly confined to less-touristy areas (where I lived) and just off base. Otherwise it’s ok for awhile but expensive.

Pros: it’s fricking Hawaii
Cons: You see the whole island your first month there and it can get really boring to be there for a long time.
I was never stationed there, but several ppl I served with told me this.

Pros: North Shore Oahu, island hopping, beaches, food, international flavor, shave ice, wahines
cons: kill haole day, bums, liberal Honolulu

I think if I were stationed anywhere on the southern side of the island my experience would be much different. I was able to avoid that whole part of the island most of the time.

currently stationed here
Pros: weather, beaches, hikes, influx of different girls every week on vacation
Cons: traffic, expensive, and locals aren't the biggest fan of military baws (for good reason), also it sucks paying 1 grand just to come home on leave.
all in all i love it here though

Pros: it's Hawaii
Cons:
Expensive
Natives hate you
Food sucks
After about a year you've seen everything worth seeing
Expensive to travel back to the states
I'd visit but I'd never live there again

Welp, looks like as long as everything is good medically with the family and myself, I'm headed to Hickam to work on the PACAF staff...

ill be there in a month for a two month stint
was there last year and didn't mind it but could see how it would get old after a year
some pretty cool hikes, but many are on pvt property and or shut down like the pali naches and pali puka, stairway to heaven, sacred falls, and crouching lion

Stationed? No
TDY for almost a month? Yes
I can see why people get tired of living there though when you're basically confined to a series of islands when you're not working.
