im not talking put it in the unit, you put it in the return air shaft on the floor behind the filter. it fills the shaft with scent when the unit is off and then spreads it through the house when it runs. since its indirect draft it wont use them up very fast at all. in fact it will last longer then in your method.
if your filter is mounted on the ceiling then just add a small shelf inside the box in the top corner so its not in the direct air path
just add a block, or half a block, each month when you clean/replace the air filter
