I’m looking at the same for next summer. We plan to do Tokyo, but are looking to do something else while there. Only so much to see in Tokyo. It will be a family of four. The adults and two teens. Open to ideas.

Kyoto is a quick train ride away. It has a different feel from Tokyo. Lots of temples to see, traditional homes still exist, and Nijo Castle is worthy of a visit.
