There are some dramatic similarities, but yeah, not even close. The Last Jedi ruined Star Wars and they insulted the fanbase as racist, sexist homophobes. Is the series limping to the finish line?

Well yes. You go 8 seasons based on a book series where the author gave up after 6 books and that will happen.

They are clearly hoping to just wrap the series at this point. And that is fine. At this point you have actresses who were excited about entering Jr. High doing their first nude scenes all these years later.

It is done. Put a fork in it. Yes, someone like Lena Headey could do this role until she shuffles off this mortal coil 50 years from now. I think most of the rest of the cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers are ready to put this thing to bed.
