Eastern. "Back in the day".

As a kid, loved Pan-Am's logo and their planes. Never flew them.

This. My work life changed quickly when CLE lost a Continental hub after the United merger. Gone were the direct flights to all the cities in the Gulf South in my territory. What used to take me 1.5 to 2.5 hours to get to my destination, now take 4-6 hours with a connection. That makes my work week 20% less than before the merger. Gone were my upgrades to first class, which were about 80% of the time.

All the airline mergers screwed up upgrade availability and service has declined among the legacy carriers. Now I am a SWA guy and not looking back. But it sucks.

I'll go with Continental when you could fly one of their DC-10 s with a pub:

My old man flew them, Delta, and Republic every week for years and they didn’t kill him.

Virgin America was fricking awesome and a damn shame they didn’t last

Virgin was by far the best US domestic airline, but at least Alaska bought them.
