That's because those two were actually being considered for the job. Our idiot AD thought they were the only coaches available in the whole of college football. There were quite a few that thought Mullen at least deserved a look.

Whether by design or luck, it is looking more and more likely that LSU got the very best HC available.
Bear Bryant said it best - "It ain't the X's and the O's, it's the Jimmy's and the Joe's".
And Coach O is bringing in the staff to give the Jimmy's and the Joe's the best chance to excel. (O's gotta do something about getting the WR's mega reps, tho)

Mullen was always going to UF when it came available
Also, the AD contacted multiple coaches through their agents about the position. This myth that it was just a knee jerk is ridiculous.
Jimbo was going to be the guy, that got sidetracked but multiple coaches were contacted about their interest.
