Does anyone know what these greens typically stimp at? They have seemed really fast the last couple times I played out there.

ETA: I meant to start this on the golf board, can an admin please move? I'm sorry for being so retarded

I aim at 33-50% of the distance I would typically putt.

Played there Sunday. If those are fast then you should get out more.

I've heard conflicting reviews about them being terrible along with the rest of the state.

SM greens are probably running about a 95 on the stimp. Taking no break, just about every put is a straight shot.

I played 2 weeks ago and they just seemed dry. They weren't in bad shape, just desperate need of water for 10 hours...basically a good rain shower. They were insanely fast, felt like glass to me

I was told they are rolling about 12 by one of the workers. I’m not sure if they actually have a stimp meter to test the greens or if that was a guess.

Thank you, I had asked one of the workers and they said they didnt know. Surely they have to have a stimpmeter, its not like it's some expensive piece of equipment.

So many people just don't understand what a true 12 is. It's like how people don't truly understand how far 300 yds is.

Agreed, that's kinda the point of this thread is to get an understanding of what green speeds really are. What would you say the actual speed of the greens is?

When they are really running what all of us would consider lightening fast I would say probably 10-10.5 max. You do much more than that around here and the greens will burn out with a quickness.

If I feel like measuring a drive I use gps. Is that acceptable for you?

I don't care if you step it off when you feel like it, that has nothing to do with the point I made.

Height of cut plays only a part of how fast/true green speed will be.

There are many other factors that influence as well.

Soil penetrants/wetting agents, number of times greens are rolled, topdressing, verticutting, fertility, plant growth regulators and water management to name a few.

The end goal is to have a uniform stand of healthy turf. If you can combine all of the above and mow at a higher HOC while maintaining a fair green speed, than you absolutely should.

I've said it before, public courses don't normally cater to the low handicap golfer. I want rounds/revenue generation. It does no good to have a 20 handicap golfer playing a 6 hour round on greens that are rolling a 12.

You are obviously an expert on this (no sarcasm)

I completely agree. What do you think greens around this area are typically running when the normal weekend player considers them to be fast?

10....anything faster than that can make greens have very few usable pin placements unless it’s a newer course with really large greens.
