What type of black paint? Wouldn’t it just burn off as well?

Yes it will. You could use a high heat paint, header paint from a Auto parts store etc, but IMO it would be a waste of money. Just use any inexpensive paint to prevent rust until next time. Then again if you aren't concerned about rust don't worry about it.
