Those are the only pilots I have been around.

not the "it's time to buzz the tower" types, no, very highly motivated, disciplined, mission hackers that can be somewhat "chameleons," if they seemed nerdish to you they were probably playing to the audience

No, I used to do contract work at the Air Command and Staff College and the Squadron Officer School so I mostly observed them with their peers. They were obviously sharp, motivated dudes, but if not for the flight suits most of them came off more like IT guys.

Again, not knocking them, I just agree with the guy that the popular perception (Maverick and Iceman types) isn't typically the reality. And that's actually a good thing.
