I work with a few carcinogens (chemical wise), and there has not been a single person in the over 70 years of my plant's existence (that anybody knows of) who has contracted cancer due to the chemicals we're around. Especially so in the last 40 years. We're required to wear PPE when in the direct vicinity and/or contact of the chemicals. Not saying we always do wear the required PPE, but a lot of times we do.

Speaking of, asbestos gaskets are the best gaskets, by the way. If you can't get a drip or a leak to check up on a flange, put an asbestos gasket on it and tighten the frick out of it, you'll get it to stop.
