I think it really depends on the child as well as the disposition of the parents. In this thread, I can only comment in general and in general, I don't see a trend one way or another.

I was hit as a kid and it didn’t turn out well. I have very little relationship with my dad because of it. It just taints your relationship, IMO. Imagine you had a friend who hits you when you mess up, you wouldn’t be friends with them long and you’d grow to resent them. Problem with the parent is there’s no way to opt out of being hit. It breeds fear, insecurity, and low self worth.
Your parent is supposed to teach you, not hit you. Hitting is lazy, and there are ways to discipline that are just as effective without hitting.
