The 75 million people born from 1978 - 1992 are generation Y, according to the birth rate tracked by the SSA. Generation Y is much larger than both generation X (1964 - 1978) and millennials (post 1992) and just slightly bigger than the original baby boom, who total roughly 72 million, born from 1946 - 1964.

The US population growth rate fell off a cliff after from 1990 - 1992, falling below replacement level and it has not recovered since. There are very clear generation markers defined by the birth rate, most of which are ignored by clickbait pushing lazy journalists.

The millennials are kids who grew up primarily in the new millennium, and there are relatively few of them so they got much more of their parents' attention than generation Y kids. Lumping in someone who is 41 with a 25 year old who never saw MTV when they played music videos and doesn't know what a fax is doesn't make sense.

Link please. Because the definition of Millennial is someone who was approaching adulthood around the millennium. LINK

This is why some people are so adverse against Millennials. Because they are millennials thinking they are talking about Gen Z. The media and boomer also blames a lot of the issues going on today on Millennials when in fact it is gen Z.

A true millennial remembers life pre internet. Remembers prodigy, the OG AOL. They were in college in the early 2000's and out around 2010. This is why this should be its own generation. the younger Gen Xers and old Gen Yers. they are just different than true Gen X and the bozos born in the 90s

I tend to roughly divide them in half.

Older = Analog Millennials and younger = Digital Millennials.
