Garland or White?

IF we end up picking at or around 7, it looks like this could be the type of decision we’ll have to make. Who would you choose? I haven’t seen Garland play, but from what I hear he seems to be more of a pure ball handler with maybe a slightly better shot where White is bigger, fast and does a lot of his best work driving but can still shoot.
I think for me it would be Garland bc Jrue already does the majority of his work in the lane, but I’d be happy with either.

I would never make the pick with our current roster in mind. That is the top mistake decision makers make every year. The truth is that these guys won't really help you win until year 4 or 5, so why consider your current roster and fit when history says that almost every player on your current roster will be gone by then?
With that said, today I lean White but I expect to go back and forth every day. But one of these guys will go 4 or 5, so if the Pels don't pick until 7, they won't have the choice between the two. At best, they can take whoever is left over. I lean White because I think he will be able to defend multiple positions. I also think he can be a slightly better playmaker. With Garland, I see a ceiling of Kemba. A flat out scorer who can pass a bit, but really can't guard either position. Which would be awesome, but has its limitations, especially on winning teams. White's ceiling to me is maybe a bigger Chauncey Billups. Can create, can shoot, can defend, can play on ball or off.
I would lean White as of today, but I am curious to see Garland at the combine

So I wanted to take a deeper look at Garland. I am curious now, why is everybody so high on him? He was highly touted out of HS. I see where he was the top PG and a top 20 overall recruit. He was the biggest signee in Vanderbilt history. But he played 4 games in college and then went pro after injuring his knee. That isn't much to go on. Is he hyped up cause of his HS reputation?
The 4 full games he played in college were against Liberty, Alcorn State, Winthrop and USC. Liberty was the best team they played and he had his best game against them, going off for 33 points. Alcorn was the worst team and he had his worst game, scoring only 2 points in 28 minutes.
He hasn't been able to showcase anything yet due to recovering. So where is the hype coming from? Is it just a dearth of PGs?
