I believe what you are talking about are "glue traps". They work fine, but I've caught way more mice with the old style wooden snap traps baited with peanut butter.

I have a ground floor shop that will get mice and the occasional rat in the winter and that is when I set my traps. After a couple nights, they are dead and gone.

I had one mouse this fall that got the bait 4 nights in a row without setting off the trap. I tweaked the trigger mechanism so it was real touchy and caught it the 5th night. It was tweaked to the point it took me 3 tries to set it on the floor without going off.

Funny story about a glue trap. Mom and Dad knew they had field mice on the back porch area and mom wanted to get rid of them...so she set up a couple glue traps. Well one night as she's going to let her Yorkies out...she sees one of the glue traps walking along the floor....she calls to my dad who then sees it...and grabs his .22 and kills the rat thru the trap. It had gotten stuck on the trap and stood back up...and was rocking that trap like it was nothing. Like a boss. A dead boss...but he was the boss for a bit.
