I wouldn’t have told her that either.
I don't like to lie, but sometimes that's the better option. You have to know how to read the hand you're dealt.
"Hmmmm, she's fishing for a compliment. I'll just give her the compliment so the rest of the night will go smoothly."
BTW I'm only able to come up with this because I have several minutes to think about it. In real time, she'd have assaulted me too, for the same reason.
