Fourth wave feminism.
Every wave of feminism has had some discussion of a matriarchy, with varyine levels of meaning, but a "women centered" and women controlled matriarchy has often been suggested.

Look, when I lived in DC, I went to or was in situation where a lot of organized protesting is done. And not just in DC. I've worked 5 party national conventions (3 republican and 2 democrat) and been on the scene for 2 "immigration" marches, as well as just walking to and from things and seeing people protesting in the streets.

Most are left wing, many have a heavy socialist lean and a few are unabashedly communist (immigration marches especially, held on May Day every year). I've heard "the world should be a socialist matriarchy" so many times, I've lost count.

It's definitely a thing. If one of the female Democrats becomes the frontrunner, I expect it to be a growing thing.

Well, yeah. Gather enough people together and even the most side-adjacent topics will get discussed. That alone doesn't mean anything.

Get enough Settlers of Catan players together, and someone's bound to bring up Monopoly. It doesn't mean that will become their game of choice.

Couple things here attending marches that take place in the capital city and hearing a few extremist discuss something does not equal a giant movement of wanting a matriarchy based society.

A woman running the country also doesn't equal a matriarchy based society it is just a woman getting elected to a job.

Wanting equal representation in government that more looks like the actual make up of the entire world does not equal wanting a matriarchy based society.

Likely scenario is you heard a group wanting equal representation and in your fear of losing the status quo you turned it into the extreme in your own head i.e. cognitive bias

quote:

A cognitive bias refers to the systematic pattern of deviation from norm or rationality in judgment, whereby inferences about other people and situations may be drawn in an illogical fashion. Individuals create their own "subjective social reality" from their perception of the input. An individual's construction of social reality, not the objective input, may dictate their behaviour in the social world. Thus, cognitive biases may sometimes lead to perceptual distortion, inaccurate judgment, illogical interpretation, or what is broadly called irrationality.
