I don't know how you can say Hank Jr over Sr. Johnny Cash Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Conway Twitty, George Strait all come to mind before Hank Jr.

But these are singers not bands. Really the biggest country band ever was Alabama.
When I think Southern rock I think of Linyrd Skynyrd or CCR even though they weren't really from the South. Just my .02

My 1st thought was George Straight but then I changed to Hank Jr. Something about the songs “Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound”, “Dinosaur”, and “Family Tradition” just really are what country music should sound like to me.

Alabama is a great pick also, hard to be more country than “Tennessee River” or “My Home’s in Alabama” in my mind.

The others listed are all legends of country but to me each are a little too unique to represent all of country music.
