TPA posts a lot of song lyrics, so I figured I'd share some from one of my songs that should be getting recorded in the next couple months. This is an excerpt from "A New Lie On Your Lips"
Basically, we each see the world through the prism of our own experiences. Those experiences create biases and expectations which may or may not be reality. When the world presents information that flies in the face of our pre-conceived notions of the world, we have a tendency to reject that information. We would rather believe the lie than accept a new truth.
However, deep inside us, our subconscious can feel the tension between what is real and what we choose to believe. We can feel a cognitive dissidence and it makes us angry. Rather than change our worldview, we tend to rage against whomever is presenting the new information, accusing them of lies and of attacking us. The world isn't allowing us to feel what we believe we are entitled to feel, so IT must be wrong, not us. We need something to feel, so we feel anger and hatred.
This cognitive dissidence between our expectations and reality not only creates a feeling of anger and resentment, but also one of deep discontent and unsettledness. We go back to those expectations, and seeing that our lives don't match them, we assume we must be entitled to something more, something different, so we rage against our situation and try to change it...all without changing the warped worldview and out of wack expectations in the first place.
These people KNOW Trump is corrupt and evil and that their side is good. Orange man HAS to be bad! That means they will reject any information counter to that narrative as being lies and personal attacks. They will seek to destroy all of those who attack their worldview with the truth because it's not THEIR truth.
ETA: Shameless plug: if you want to hear that song live, and you live in South Louisiana or coastal Mississippi, like Bayou Bullets on social media and check out our events to see when we'll be playing near you. We'll be at Mid City Ballroom in BR tomorrow night starting at 8:30.
quote:
Inside ourselves
Within our hearts
We analyze our world
We create our own conciousness
We think therefore we are
We believe
And such becomes so
Perceptions color truth
Truth becomes deception
Tat deception yields lies
Lies condescension
We lock the doors to our own cells
For our own dreams we fell
Agony, agony, agony, agony
Inside ourselves
Deep inside the darkness
We can't assuage the rage
We can't dissuade the loneliness
Longing For, Pining for
Anything to feel, just to feel
Where went those dreams?
Or were those our nightmares?
We can't rationalize reality
Our destiny must lie elsewhere
All hope's a siren's song
And at the chorus we sing along
Is this all?
