Currently have a MSI GP60 with a GT840M. But it's 5 years old and weighs a ton.
I'll be moving for work soon and I need a new laptop. As far as gaming goes, it doesn't have to be super high end, just enough to play most games decently.
Other than that, good quality and not too big/heavy.
Anywhere around $1000-$1500

As someone who spent a good amount of money on a gaming laptop 3 years ago, don't. It’s not that I regret my purchase, I still use it with an external graphics setup 980ti and a 1440p monitor. I get great performance out of it and have considered upgrading my RAM from 8 to 16 gigs.
The thing it price wise, you can build a top/high end desktop. Unless you absolutely require a laptop and can’t have it any other way! Just a suggestion.
I have an Alienware 15 r2 that had a 970m and it’s been great. My entire setup cost over 2k though and if I would have just built a desktop then I could have had better hardware and saved some coin.
Do you travel a lot for work and that’s the reason for wanting one??

I'm moving to Japan.
Obtaining parts, shipping, space etc. Building a desktop may not be an option there.
And shipping my 40lbs rig, with a monitor, and peripherals, probably isn't either.
I've consodered building a mini tower or sff, but I'm not sure.

I would wait until the new RTX cards come in laptops and then maybe the GTX ones will drop in price

Will that be within 3 months?

They already have some rtx cards in a few. It's just not mainstream.

I'm also looking to buy a laptop for a deployment coming up.
Have you made a decision yet?
I'm looking at anything with a 1050ti, 16GB RAM, and a SSD.

Look for one with an 8th gen intel too. Those things are pretty bonkers in laptops
I did see this one pop up on slickdeals today

I got the Dell G7 with the RTX 2060 and so far I've been happy with it other than the screen (apparently the good ones come out in May). It was my first push back to windows after decade of Mac ownership. Runs Witcher 3 on ultra incredibly well. Fans sound like a jet taking off while gaming, the battery life doing normal task is only 4 hours..
Like the other poster said I would have been better off building a desktop but I'm happy.

Haven't yet but its crunch time now.
It's put a $150 1tb ssd in my current laptop, 5 year old msi gp60
NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M 2 GB
Intel Core i5 4th Gen 4200M (2.50 GHz)
8 GB DDR3L
750 GB HDD
or buy a new one. Looking to stay under $1000
Any of these prime day deals worth it? (granted I'll take recommendations beyond amazons deals)
Acer Predator Helios 300
Acer Predator Helios Ver 2
MSI GV62
Lenovo L430
