Flying into BWI, best way to get to DC

I’m flying into BWI in a couple of weeks. What’s the cheapest option to get into the city? And do I need to buy tickets beforehand or can I just buy them once I land?

Best depends on your criteria: cheapest? fastest? easiest for someone with a pile of luggage?
Supershuttle doesn't require reservations, you can walk up and buy a ticket. It's not a direct drop off, though: your van will go to various locations to drop ppl off. You might be first, you might be last. Just depends.
Cheapest is likely public transit: you go downstairs in the international section of the terminal and wait for the B30 bus. It will take you to the Greenbelt Metro station. You can then take the metro into DC. Exact change is required for the bus, and you buy a metro ticket at the station from a machine. It's just as fast as a taxi. Unless you hate public transit and have multiple heavy pieces of luggage, it's not a bad option.

I take the train. Driving most times of the day is brutal.

Do I need to prepurchase if I’m taking the MARC train?

Take the shuttle from the airport to the train station. From there, buy a MARC ticket on the Penn Line to Union Station in DC. Then take the metro or uber to wherever you need to go.

Take a shuttle for Marc train to union station... not Amtrak...cheap and easy... can buy when you get there. Should be plenty of signs but you can buy tickets at airport. No need to pre purchase
