A few studies have shown that transportation noise may also be a risk factor for development of cancer, including breast and colon cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Noise may affect the carcinogenesis through suppression of melatonin, which is known to have various anti-carcinogenic properties, as well as by effects of stress and sleep disturbance on the immune system.
The Danish Cancer Society Research Center seems to think noise induced cancer is worth investigating.

The obvious connection is with the noise and sleep disruption, which has some links to cancer as well.
quote:
There is some evidence of a link between insufficient sleep and the risk of cancer. In particular, people with circadian rhythm disorders—in which the body's biological clock is disrupted because of shift work, for example—may be at increased risk.
A study in the International Journal of Cancer found a relationship between women's irregular work schedules and the rate of breast cancer. They found that the rate of breast cancer was 30 percent higher for the women who had worked shifts. Shift work has also been shown to increase the incidence of certain cancers—for example prostate cancer—in men.
Indeed, scientists have seen this link in animal studies; for example, when they manipulate the sleep/wake cycles of rodents for an extended time, cancers grow faster.

Even if you want to ignore the "they say" part of the comment, dismissing the claim outright without doing research seems foolish.
