Three point shots and layups/dunks are the two most efficient forms of offense. Only a handful of players convert midrange two pointers at a high enough percentage to make it efficient on a PPS basis... and guys who can do it with long 2pt shots are rare as hens teeth.

The 3pt shooting provides excellent spacing and the more guys you have that can threaten from beyond the arc, the better it gets. The spacing allows for more opportunities at the rim with cutters and drives, which is exciting basketball. Without that part of the equation though your offense is very feast or famine and defenses can play you tighter on the perimeter. Without the spacing provided by the 3 defenses can cheat in and deny the lane.

As for the post game... I grew up a fan of the Dream and still think his game was magnificent to watch. However the Barkley rule(should be called the Shaq rule) killed that more than the three ever did. It made it very difficult to have an efficient post heavy offense. The three actually complimented that style very well, as it could be used to drag the help D far away from the post.

I add my vote to moving the line back to NBA length. It would further improve spacing and at the same time increase the importance of the inside attack since the volatility from range would be more pronounced.
