Flew Spirit round trip to Detroit a few years back (weekend baseball trip). Non-stop direct flight, on time, no problems; low-cost AND they had the best time-frames for flights. Only thing I paid extra for was a reserved seat next to a window. You just have to understand what it is-- a cheap two hour ride somewhere, not a suit-and-tied, 1st class "Mad Men"- era experience. If you realize that and plan for what it is, then you should be okay.

Similar deal with Allegiant last year to Pittsburgh. On the way home I had a whole row to myself and the stewardess brought me some extra bottles of Tito's after I purchased one.
