The biggest issue in most areas in avoiding cable companies is that they're the only provider of high speed internet. I moved from my last house right before Google fiber was installed. I'm stuck with cable internet at my current house. That said, that's all I pay them for. I have a roku, netflix, Amazon Prime video, sometimes we have Hulu, and during football/basketball season, I have SlingTV.
