Have a bare yard that I am looking to get grass growing on. I believe it is too shady for centipede. Was wondering if anyone had success with zoysia

Zoysia doesn't like shade either. You may have to go with a fescue if you have a lot of shade.

There are a few types of Zoysia...I have Zenith Zoysia in my yard. Supposed to be shade resilient and durable but i regret trying to save money. It's got rust disease, has to be thatched and aerated every year, and fungicided every year for best look. Rust will never leave your lawn...like an STD for your grass.

For shade you will need to get a Tiff Grand Bermuda or St Augustine....If you really want nice grass during off season or in shade, then fescue is another route but doesn't have the rhizomes (spreading root system) and has to be reseeded every year.

I have zoysia palisade and yard is mostly shade. Had St aug down and it did horrible so pulled it up and put down the palisade. Just fertilize once a year and put out atrazine. Been happy with it.

I just killed, tilled, and filled my centipede yard with palisades zoysia. There is no comparison between it and centipede on looks.
