Needing new living room furniture and going back and forth on material for living room sofa/loveseat. We have 2 boys, a yorkie, and a golden retriever/german shephed mix that sheds a ton.
Considering leather, "treated" fabric like Crypton, or something like microfiber. All have pros/cons and there is a budget to consider. So I ask, what would you do?

Not a direct answer, but one thing to keep in mind is getting a couch with cushions that are removable. I didn't take that advice and it hasn't burned us, but I did buy the extended protection plan in case there should be a stain, rip, etc.

I've yet to find a material or brand of sofa that I have not wanted to replace every 2 years.

Slipcovered sofas are great for kids and pets. Make sure it is washable.

We got ours wrapped in SUNBRELLA fabric. Its a fabric used for outdoors, comfortable and easy to clean. There is LIST on their website that shows how to get all stains out of the fabric which is pretty helpful. Some stains are even removed by bleach which will not discolor the fabric. Its pretty amazing stuff. We have a dog, cat and 2 kids.
Also, I second the recommendation of getting removable cushions. It makes it 10xs easier to clean, and you can simply turn them around to the clean side when company comes over if you did not have time to clean them.
ETA: Do not get feather cushions... You will be picking up feathers for as long as you own the couch.

GOod to know and thanks. I've been seeing Sunbrella pop up a lot in my research.

Do not get leather if you let your dog on the sofa. It will be full of scratch marks. We have a yorkie=poo and I have to keep my leather sofa covered all the time. Sunbrella fabric sounds like a great choice.

One of my cons for getting leather. And the price tag if you get the good stuff.
